Joe Satriani, también llamado “Satch”, es un excelente guitarrista de rock instrumental que ha desarrollado una brillante carrera en solitario, realizando colaboraciones con otros músicos, etc, pero no ha tocado oficialmente en ningún grupo. hasta 2008 que forma Chickenfoot. Es considerado el mejor guitarrista número 26 por la revista Rolling Stone.
Joe Satriani es el perfecto ejemplo de guitarrista técnico, aunque no por ello descuida el aspecto melódico.
A lo largo de su carrera musical ha logrado la perfecta ejecución de casi todas las técnicas de guitarra, entre las cuales tenemos el tapping a dos manos, el sweep picking, tap harmonics, volume sweells,…
Es bastante conocido por su faceta como profesor de guitarra. Entre sus alumnos se encuentran Kirk Hammett, Steve Vai y Alex Skolnick.
Sus principales influencias musicales son Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Brian May y Jimmy Page. Músicos en toda regla.
Su segundo álbum, Surfing with the Allien, fue el que le catapultó al éxito y el que le otorgó el título de “virtuoso” con la guitarra. En él encontramos temas tanto veloces y técnicos, como Surfing with the Allien, como temas lentos y melódicos, como Always with me.
Es admirable la capacidad creativa de Joe Satriani y su versatilidad a la hora de tocar cualquier género, pues toca tanto blues, como jazz, como heavy metal, como rock, etc.
